This is my own version of the removed Void Miner in the actual TDS game.

"Wielding an Extractor Rifle, the Void Miner releases massive damage and mines corruption." - Store Description

Description[]

The Void Miner is a ranged tower that attacks in delayed bursts, dealing massive amounts of damage in a short period of time. It can only be obtained from achieving the Void Master rank in the Ranked Survival, and has a level requirement of Level 100.

The Void Miner is quite a unique tower, as it mixes both offensive and economic capabilities while on the battlefield. It uses an Extractor Rifle as its weapon and tool for mining corruption. The Void Miner takes a bit to charge up its Extractor Rifle once an enemy enters its range. If there are no more enemies in its range or it has to recharge its Rifle, it will stop firing. Once the Void Miner finishes firing its bursts, it will stop for a moment to mine corruption. The amount of corruption mined increases within upgrades. After every wave, the amount of corruption (displayed on the upgrade icon) will be doubled and converted to cash. The Void Miner gains Hidden Detection at Level 2 and can damage Lead Enemies from Level 0.

The Void Miner is considered a powerful mid to late-game tower due to its high DPS and cash-granting. It also has a placement limit of eight per player.

Strategy[]

  • Similar to the Accelerator, the Void Miner does not change its target until it is killed or moves out of range when locked onto an enemy.
    • The Void Miner can also deal with hordes by transferring the burst between enemies without any penalties.
  • The Void Miner should be placed away from the path so it cannot be stunned by most stun attacks from enemies, such as the Templar, while still being able to attack due to its huge range.
  • Because of its high DPS, you should afford your eight Void Miners as soon as possible to deal as much damage as you can.
  • The Void Miner can be used to kill lead enemies, as it can damage them from level 0.
    • However, it should only be used for this later on in the game, as it is quite expensive to afford early on during Hardcore mode.
  • It is best to first place Level 3 Void Miners due to their decent DPS, good burst time and efficient corruption mining, as the cash converted can allow you to save for Level 5 Void Miners.
    • Try to avoid using Levels 0, 2, and 4 as their corruption per mine and DPS is not worth the price.
  • If the Void Miner is boosted by the Commander, the time between each burst is not decreased (Cooldown), only tick time is.
    • This means the optimal time to use the Commander's Call to Arms ability is either just before the Void Miner starts to attack, or immediately after.
      • However, Commander-chaining renders this inadvisable due to other towers not receiving the 30% firerate buff provided by the ability. This is even more true with the Level 5 Void Miner due to its burst time being longer than the duration of the Call to Arms ability

Lore[]

The Void Miners were elite units in the Apocalypse Resistance military who each wielded a powerful Extractor Rifle and special void miner armor. Their extractor rifles and armor were powered by the energy obtained from certain defeated Void Army zombies (such as Voids and Void Heroes), similar to the XR901 Walkers, the Accelerator, the Annihilator and the War Machine. They could mine corruption using their rifles from certain defeated Void Army zombies and convert it into more energy for their equipment. These soldiers could take down hordes of zombies on their own due to their decently big range and high DPS, while also being able to aid in defeating powerful bosses quite effectively. Due to the high cost and time in producing the rifles and armor, the Apocalypse Resistance rarely ever used them in large numbers, often deploying the soldiers in squads alongside other garrisons. The Void Miners were also competent at taking down powerful minor bosses, such as Fallen Titans and Slow Kings, while also being able to effectively eliminate faster zombies, such as Glitches and Hazards. They were also often seen in combat against the more powerful Fallen and Void Armies. They were a part of the Final Battle of Earth and contributed in holding back many of the Fallen and Void Army zombies. After the War, the rifles and armor were decommissioned as there would no longer be need for their use.
